Hypnosis

Hypnosis has been around for many many years, and gone through various different names, from Mesmerism to Monoideaism.

And over the last hundred years or so it has gained popularity with clinicians of all shapes and sizes, from Doctors and Dentists using it for anaesthesia to Spiritualists using it for Past Life Regression.

It's most common use though is in Counselling and Psychotherapy, as it helps the process along enormously.

Contrary to popular belief, NOBODY can be made to do something that they do not want to do because of Hypnosis, and when in Hypnosis you will always be awake, aware and fully in control. You will remember everything that is said to you during the session and can bring yourself out of Hypnosis at any time that you wanted.

Hypnosis is nothing more complicated than daydreaming, anyone can learn how to put themselves into Hypnosis, and Self Hypnosis is something that all clients of ours are taught and encouraged to practice as it will speed up therapy and by quite a large degree too.

Unfortunately though, Hypnosis cannot really take control of someone's mind, Stage Hypnosis was born out of the common practice of demonstrating all clinical interventions to an audience during the 19th Century.

Real Hypnosis though, is not that exciting to watch and due to public demand became something that it isn't. Anyone taking part in a Stage Hypnosis show is doing so because they want to and not because of any mind control techniques!

In the sporting world Hypnosis is sometimes referred as "The Zone" or "Flow State" and it encourages the learning process.

The learning process is quite simple and contains 4 stages.

Unconscious Incompetence - Where you're not even aware that you can't do something.

Conscious Incompetence - Where you know what it is you want to learn, but don't know how to do it yet.

Conscious Competence - Where you can do it, but it takes a lot of effort.

Unconscious Competence - Where you can do it, and you can do it without even thinking about it.

Clients usually come to us at the second stage of the process, they know what they want to be able to do, but either don't seem to have the willpower, strength or the confidence to manage it by themselves.

The state of mind of Hypnosis helps you to move from one stage to the other faster. By imagining something in Hypnosis you create the effect of having done it for real many many times, hence why we have such success when using it within Counselling and Psychotherapy.
